The tour begins at Puerto Capitanía in Puerto Maldonado, where guests board a motorized boat for an approximate 40-minute ride along the Madre de Dios River to reach the Lake Sandoval control entrance, located inside the Tambopata National Reserve.

Upon arrival, visitors register at the control post and then start a guided walk of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes through primary rainforest. Along the trail, it is common to observe monkeys, birds, and other wildlife, while learning about the local flora and fauna.

At the end of the trail, guests arrive at Lake Sandoval, where they board a traditional rowing canoe to explore the lake. During the canoe excursion, there are excellent opportunities to spot wildlife such as giant river otters, caimans, turtles, and a variety of bird species.

A lunch break is provided in a designated area near the lake, allowing time to rest and enjoy the natural surroundings.

After lunch, the return journey follows the same route, including the canoe crossing, the jungle walk back to the control entrance, and the motorboat transfer back to Puerto Capitanía, concluding the tour.
