Ready for a unique and exciting adventure in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest? If you’re looking for a truly epic challenge, piranha fishing in the lakes of the Tambopata Reserve will immerse you in a world of adrenaline and legend. Prepare to face one of the most feared predators in tropical waters and discover why this experience is unique for lovers of extreme fishing.
• We wake up early to the songs of the birds that live near the lodge.
Then we will take a hike to visit the natural viewpoint where we will appreciate the sunrise and be dazzled by the awakening of the jungle. On the way back, we will see a "mammal clay lick," a place where mammals gather to eat clay.
• Breakfast.
• An ethnobotanical walk to learn about medicinal plants and see giant trees such as the lupuna (Ceiba pentandra) and the shihuahuaco (Dipteryx micrantha).
• Lunch.
• We will fish for piranhas and other species.
• Nighttime canoe excursion on the lake and observe black caimans.
• Dinner.
• Overnight.
• We will wake up early to visit the "La Torre" Collpa (mineral clay lick), where we will observe macaws, parrots, and parakeets.
• Breakfast on board.
• Visit a "native farm" (small rural farm), where we will appreciate the planting and harvesting of local products such as cacao, bananas, yucca, pineapple, citrus fruits, corn, avocado, etc.
• Return to the Lodge.
• Lunch.
• Free time.
• Hike through the jungle to visit an area of chestnut trees that are approximately 40 meters tall. The chestnut tree is considered the flagship tree of the Madre de Dios region. We will also learn about the economic activity of chestnut harvesting, which is carried out by the local residents.
• Dinner.
• Overnight.
• Breakfast.
• Hike back to the Tambopata River, then board a motorized canoe to Puerto Maldonado.
Your tour will conclude in San Francisco on Day 8 of the trip. There are no activities planned for this day so you're free to depart at any time. We highly recommend booking post-accommodation to give yourself time to fully experience the wonders of this iconic city!
Day 1 of this tour is an arrivals day, which gives you a chance to settle into your hotel and explore Los Angeles. The only planned activity for this day is an evening welcome meeting at 7pm, where you can get to know your guides and fellow travellers. Please be aware that the meeting point is subject to change until your final documents are released.
Airport transfers are not included in the price of this tour, however you can book for an arrival transfer in advance. In this case a tour operator representative will be at the airport to greet you. To arrange this please contact our customer service team once you have a confirmed booking.
This tour has an age range of 12-70 years old, this means children under the age of 12 will not be eligible to participate in this tour. However, if you are over 70 years please contact us as you may be eligible to join the tour if you fill out G Adventures self-assessment form.
